We had just finished a relaxing trip to Koh Tao (read here) and landed back in Bangkok. The next few days were going to be spent in exploring and experiencing Bangkok. One of the main attractions that we were keen on visiting was the Wat Pho. This blog post is our experience of doing so.

Well, first what is Wat Pho? It is a Buddhist temple complex in Bangkok. It is also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. It is one of the oldest temples in Bangkok. In fact it existed even before Bangkok was established as the capital by King Rama I. Click here to know more of its history and other details. This blog post is a going to be photos oriented.

Here is the entrance that we entered through:

Here are some of the first views as we started to explore the temple complex:

But the stars are obviously the Buddha statues. And there are plenty of them in the complex. Here are some of them:

The Phra Ubosot is the ordination hall. This is where they perform the Buddhist rituals and is considered the most sacred building in the complex.

Here is the interior of the Ubosot:

There are four towers at each corner of the courtyard. Here is one of them:

And finally it was time to go see the Reclining Buddha.

Summary

I would say that this is a must visit place when traveling to Bangkok. It is a popular place for visitors. So it would be advisable to it early in the morning. This way you would beat the crowd as well as not face too much of the heat.

Our next stop was the really magnificent The Grand Palace. Read about here.
